Yeah, I know, I see your eye roll.  Email isn’t sexy, you say.  Social media marketing is more fun, you say.  You’re not wrong, but you’re also missing out.  Email marketing is an incredible way to speak to your audience, increase trust and establish authority, and ultimately sell products.

Everyone has an email

 

Think about it.  Even your “cool/hip grandma” has an email… and I can guarantee you she checks it.  Maybe some of you -myself included- remember the days when sending and receiving email was all there WAS to do on the internet (oh, the days of Hotmail…).  

The point is, email has been around for a LONG time, and it’s outlived a lot of fads.  According to one Hubspot survey, 91% of consumers use email.  In fact, email use by 2020 will increase to over 3 billion users.  That’s a lot of people… and a lot of potential customers.

Most consumers check their email daily, and since almost everyone owns a smartphone, checking email has gotten even easier.  As you can see, email is a great way to get in front of your audience, and on a regular basis.

 

Personalization and specialized content

 

With email, you are able to get really specific about who your audience is, what they like, and what they need.  The ability to group your subscribers into groups or lists makes it easy to communicate with them in specific ways or send them certain offers unique to them.  

 

Relationship building

 

When it comes to marketing, we’re always talking that that Know, Like & Trust Factor.  When you use email marketing on a regular basis, you’re able to build relationships and show people your brand.

Emails are a great way to tell stories, ask questions and engage in one-on-one conversations with your audience.  If you’re able to nail this, you’ll have customers who love opening your emails to find out what you have next!

 

Visibility

 

I know, I know.  Everyone’s tired of hearing about the mystical and all-oppressive Algorithm… but just hear me out.  We all know by now that Facebook is making big changes to business page visibility.  This means people will be seeing more of Grandma’s post blunders (bless her heart) and less of your awesome marketing videos.

With all of these change, it’s even MORE important that online businesses have a solid email marketing strategy, so that no matter what happens on social media, they can still reach their audience.

 

Trust

 

This is probably the most important point I want to make.  Over the years, email has become a place where people can go to conduct business, chat with friends, and receive news they find most important.  

Email addresses are personal- and as such, when someone agrees to be added to your email list they are showing that they like and trust your company enough to give you a shot.  If you’re able to keep this trust and deliver awesome value, you will have a loyal audience who truly cares about you, your product, and your brand.

Hopefully, these reasons show you why it’s so important to consider having an email marketing strategy.  There are plenty of things I haven’t mentioned in this post (like how email marketing is CHEAP, or the fact that email marketing has a 4,300% ROI, for example) but I thought we’d stick with the basics.  🙂
